Cosmetic surgery is a very common procedure that offers many meaningful benefits to patients, but it also carries a high risk of serious complications. Often, the risks are not fully disclosed to patients, which can put a great deal of stress on their minds. Surgery is not a simple procedure. There are inherent risks associated with any type of surgery. Some of these risks are higher than others, however.
Vicarious experience
Vicarious trauma can occur when a person experiences traumatic events through the experiences of a loved one. This can lead to Posttraumatic Stress Disorder and can be treated by professionals. People can share their feelings and concerns with family and friends. It may be difficult for people to share their feelings, but they should not take a loved one's reactions personally. They should maintain their daily routines, and contact family and friends.
Self-rated attractiveness
A new study examined the association between self-rated physical attraction and psychological well being among adolescents. Participants were asked questions about their own physical attractiveness as well as self-reported levels self-harming and suicidal ideation. Results showed that male adolescents were more attractive than female peers. However, girls were more likely to experience internalized distress if their self-rated attractiveness was negative. These associations had statistical significance only for girls and were only related to self-harm behavior and suicidal ideastion.
Religiousness
New research has shown that religion can have an impact on people's decision whether or not they want to consider cosmetic surgery. In particular, those who are more religious were less likely be to undergo cosmetic surgery than those of other faiths. More research is needed to establish the relationship between religion and cosmetic surgery risk.
Household income
A correlation was found between household incomes, and the possibility of having cosmetic surgery. The study found that people with higher incomes were more likely to have the procedure than those who had lower incomes. The researchers used the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics' measure of gross household income to assess SES. It is widely accepted as a method to evaluate SES. This method has been shown in the past to reveal health disparities among socioeconomic groups.
Liquid silicone facial injections
While liquid silicone injections are a common cosmetic procedure, there are still risks. Some patients may experience temporary bruising and swelling. Some patients may experience serious complications, such as inflammatory reactions. Additionally, liquid silicone injections could migrate into other parts of your body and cause permanent damage. Extreme cases of treatment can lead to heart attacks.
Infections
Patients who have had cosmetic surgery can become infected. Although they are very rare, infections can still happen even with antibacterial medications. Different microorganisms can cause these infections. Most commonly, they are caused by Staphylococci or streptococci. However, infections from non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTMs) have also been reported. These infections are often difficult to detect using standard Gram staining. They can also be resistant to common antibacterial drugs.
